Pangasius Fish

Pangasius was sixth in the National Fisheries Institute’s “Top Ten” list of the most consumed seafood in the United States. The Top 10 is based on tonnage of fish sold. According to the NFI, this mild-flavored white-flesh fish being used increasingly in food service. It is finding its way ontorestaurant menus and into stores as well, where one may see it called basa, tra, or swai.  Pangasius is a term used for a special variety of imported freshwater fish that have become the tenth most popular seafood product. Consumers are eating about 6 ounces of Pangasius per year and demand for this moderately priced selection is expected to continue to increase. It is a primary example of the increasing demand and dependence on seafood products.
